Building on renewed momentum in membership growth, training and industry partnerships, Boilermakers, contractors and owners convened in Coronado, California, Aug. 26–27 for the 38th MOST National Tripartite Alliance conference. International President Timothy Simmons emphasized collaboration at every level, noting that relationship-driven solutions are essential to tackling challenges such as manpower shortages and staffing future projects. He outlined the union’s MOST strategy—Mobilization, Optimization, Stabilization and Training—and highlighted new recruitment initiatives and expanded training efforts designed to strengthen the Boilermaker workforce.
Speakers addressed critical priorities including mental health, safety, energy-sector shifts and jurisdiction. United States veteran advocate Josh Rizzo urged attendees to confront the growing crisis of suicide and overdoses in the construction industry, while MOST Programs Administrator Mark Garrett detailed training advances and expanded online access to OSHA coursework. Industry partners—including PBF Energy and Southern Company—forecast significant upcoming work and praised Boilermakers’ reliability and versatility. Tripartite caucuses identified manpower, recruitment, training and jurisdiction as shared concerns.
Legislative issues, apprenticeship initiatives, safety collaborations and the growing National Transient Division reinforced a common theme throughout the conference: The Boilermakers are strengthening their foundation and working together to meet the industry’s future.
