2016 National Tripartite Alliance
The 31st Annual National Tripartite Alliance Conference welcomed participants to Myrtle Beach October 3 – 5, 2016. Attendees heard from industry leaders covering a multitude of topics, had the opportunity to discuss collective industry challenges with colleagues and received program updates from MOST.
In his opening address, International President Newton B. Jones noted that all of our alliance partners seek opportunities to move our industry forward and stated “building upon our existing relationships and making new industry acquaintances is a key component of what we do at these conferences.”
President Jones also cited Carbon Capture Usage and Storage (CCUS) as the one solution that can constrain carbon emissions across all industries on a global basis. To better understand the Department of Energy’s position, attendees heard from Senior Advisor David Foster where he stressed the need for government-industry partnerships.
Refer to the Conference Presenters area for a complete listing of industry leaders who shared their expertise.
This year’s Conference also saw a change to the Caucus Sessions that utilized an audience response system to evaluate a selection of MOST Programs as well as assess and rank important issues facing the Boilermaker construction industry today. This analysis (found in the 2016 Caucus Reports) formed the basis of three Caucus Working Groups each challenged with seeking solutions to one of the following top-ranked issues:
- Adding human performance tools to the current MOST programs, especially safety training
- Addressing skilled labor shortages, including welders
- Expanding work opportunities outside coal-fired power generation
On-going progress reports, as well as the final outcomes, will be available on the respective Working Group pages noted above.
The 31st Annual MOST Tripartite Alliance Conference went on despite threats from Hurricane Matthew. While the storm led to an early departure Wednesday, it did not detract from the high energy among conference speakers, Owners, Contractors, Boilermakers and invited guests. Please refer to the meeting minutes, presenters listing, conference videos, and photo gallery to obtain an understanding of the conversations and information shared during the Conference.
The 2017 National Tripartite Alliance Conference is slated for October 2 – 4, 2017.
